Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Jack C. Garvin

Candidate for
Board Member; Santa Maria Joint Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate

Jack Garvin: Born and raised in Seattle, Washington. My teaching career began in 1957 here in California. In 1998 I retired from the Superintendency of the Orcutt Union School District. During my years in the position I learned the importance of working closely with the community, parents, and staff. I learned the value of advanced planning for facilities and I learned the importance of setting high standards for students. Election to the high school board will allow me to bring this experience and commitment to educational excellence to the trustee position.

As a member of the Board of Trustees I will also bring the experience of working closely with city and county officials to plan for future student housing needs. My participation as the Chairman of the General Plan Advisory Committee that resulted in the Orcutt Community Plan update is an example of developing a comprehensive school policy for future facility needs, (Future school sites were identified, land donations were secured and developer fees were set).

Your vote on November 2nd 2004 would be greatly appreciated.
