Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Miguel E. Navarrette

Candidate for
Board Member; Sacramento City Unified School District; 4 Year Term

AS AN EDUCATOR: I will work to create the best schools and ensure that students have access to technological and vocational skills needed to compete in the 21st Century workforce.

I will work to ensure that every student has qualified teachers, current textbooks, access to technology, and a clean and safe environment in which to learn.

I will strive to close the academic achievement gap for all students by instituting programs alligned to the state standards, ensuring quality teacher training, and putting in place 21st Century BASICS and computer programs. I will also work to ensure that students are exposed beyond academics to the visual and performing arts. I will work to put in place parent education programs and parent advisory groups so we can work together to ensure that every child is prepared for the 21st Century workforce.

AS A PARENT & TAXPAYER: I will work to ensure fiscal responsibility, and will work to ensure that more district budget dollars go directly to the classrooms.

I will NOT vote for a supplemental parcel tax.

AS A COMMITTED COMMUNITY MEMBER: I will hold monthly meetings at school sites to listen to student/parent/teacher concerns and ideas.

I will welcome parents' input on how best to serve their student(s).

I will work to ensure that our community schools are safe and clean and have updated facilities and equipment.

I am a passionate believer in quality education for all students. I believe that all students and the community deserve the best quality education to ensure that our city and state have well-prepared workers and citizens. If elected, I will strive to utilize proven educational and vocational programs and direct district dollars directly to the classroom.
