Grass Roots Approach to the Election

By Jerry P. Houseman

Candidate for Board Member; Sacramento City Unified School District; 2 Year Short Term

This information is provided by the candidate
Jerry is walking the neighborhoods and appearing at neighborhood events to meet the public and find out their views on schools
I started walking the neighborhoods, handing out my flyers at supermarkets, concerts and political rallies in mid-July. It has been eye opening. The major public concerns are the closing of Sacramento High school and making it into a private charter school and the California Administrator School Authority (CASA)retirement plan granted to top district administrators. A new concern is surfacing for me as I talk to parents. It is my estimation that about 1 in 5 parents are sending their children to private schools because they have lost faith in the public schools of our city. We need to turn this around by improving the achievement of the schools. Much has been accomplished with the bonds the community passed to improve the facilities. The schools are being modernized. The trust of the public must be restored.
