What are the most important issues you think the city is facing?

By Mike Whipple

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Laguna Niguel

This information is provided by the candidate
When I came onto the city council the most important issue was the proposed airport at El Toro. With the passage of Measure W, the airport is not a threat to our quality of life. There are still active proponents of an airport and we must be vigilant. I serve on the Great Park Conservancy Advisory Board and will continue to work for non-aviation reuse of former El Toro MCAS. The State continues to take local resources, which reduces the ability of cities and counties to provide the services and programs that we value. I support Proposition 1A on the November 2 ballot to restrict the ability of the State Legislature to divert local funds except in the case when the governor declares an emergency. Pubic safety is our most important issue. I have supported the City's Safe City plan, which has identified programs and services to reduce crime and enhance safety. I will continue to support prudent and fiscally efficient allocation of funds to improve our record as a safe place to live, work and raise a family. Our children are our priority. The City and the school district must continue to work together to provide safe, productive activities after school programs for youth and to discourage harmful behaviors.
