This information is provided by the candidate

My wife Julie and I have lived in the Westminster School District for over 30 years. Our daughters Chrystal and Cindy graduated from Meairs Elementary, Warner Middle School and Westminster High School.

I have worked at Delphi Connection Systems in Irvine for the last 27 years.

Previously, I served as a Board member for eight years (1994-2002) which included four terms as Board President, and I was honored to represent our community by doing it.

Graduated from the Criminal Justice Training Center at Golden West College in 1980, sixth in my class. I hold a Certificate of Completion in Criminal Justice from Golden West College, along with numerous classes in Secuity Administration.

I have worked as a Reserve Police Officer for the last 24 years, currently holding the rank of Senior Reserve Officer assigned to the Gang Suppression Unit. During those years I have put in over 16,500 hours of duty time. Around 80% of that time was in uniformed patrol, but I have worked many other details as well. Among them are Gang Suppression, surveillance, prostitution stings, burglary suppression, background investigations and prisoner transportation. Over the 24 years of my law enforcement career I have undergone hundreds of hours of specialized training. Some of the topics covered were:

  • Elder Abuse
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Computer Forensics
  • Prison Gangs
  • Parolee Contacts
  • Domestic Violence
  • Terrorist Incident First Responder
  • Drug Lab Investigations
  • Hate Crimes

When I was decorated for VALOR in 1997, it was during an off-duty incident that had occurred. I was able to save a motorist who was being assaulted by two gang members. I detained the gang members at the scene, enabling Westminster Police to arrest them. They later admitted to attempting to stab the driver, so as to gain status in their gang.

From 1969 to 1973 (Vietnam War) I served my country proudly as a Petty Officer 3rd class in the U.S. Coast Guard. By the time my enlistment ended, I had been trained as a U.S.C.G Boarding Officer and as a Search And Rescue boat crewman.

I enjoy reading for pleasure and relxation. My favorite authors are John Sandford, Patricia Cornwell and Michael Connelly. But I also enjoy reading Science Fiction and Military History. I am also an avid paintball player, playing an average of at least once a month.

I belong to the following professional organizations:

  • Electronics and Space Technicians #1553;
  • IBEW #2295 (1973-2003)
  • Garden Grove Reserve Peace Officers Association;
  • Orange County Peace Officers Association;
  • California Reserve Peace Officers Association;
  • California Background Investigators Association.
