PROFESSIONAL
I am a fully credentialed middle school teacher and have ten years experience on contract in schools in Los Angeles County. I completed the Masters in Education from CSULB last year. My specialty is with the academic needs of Hispanic youth. I am able to converse fluently with non-English speaking parents. Taking two years of college Spanish wasn't enough to become fluent. Adopting a Salvadoran refugee family who knew no English made the difference. - - I was co-chair with the Sixth Grade Department for a year with 27 teachers. Last year, I coordinated several science department projects, like the Science Fair, Frog Fever (frog dissection), and the $12,600 science material inventory. This year, I will continue to assist the Science Department with supplemental materials for 30 teachers. I am known for my integrity, enthusiasm, and professionalism.

LOCAL YOUTH
My family moved to Cypress in 1968 when cows were in the city. I loved the Cypress library! I was the regular babysitter in five homes and a teenage day camp counselor for three summers with the Cypress Park and Recreation Department. I attended St. Joseph High at Lakewood, winning awards every semester. I hung out with my Cypress friends, going to dances at Kennedy. At CSULB, I was the song leader and Vice President for the Catholic Newman Club. - - Now, I have three sons, 21, 19, and 15. The 21 year old is a computer technician and website manager. The 19 year old is a sophomore majoring in physics at UC San Diego. The 15 year old is an honors student in Georgia and enjoys the California beaches four times a year.

HOMEOWNER
I have owned three homes as a single mother. Remaining local for my family has been very important. I built equity with each move. I am well settled now, in a neighborhood of many politically active citizens.

LINKS TO AUHSD
Five of my family members attended schools in AUHSD. Four were regular students and regular alumni. My eldest son, however, won seven medals in the Orange County Pentathlon. My middle son just continued making his A's. My nephew was able to make substantial progress in the special ed program at Kennedy High. I worked one successful year as an ESL teacher for AUHSD's adult education at the Anaheim Community Center.

POSITIVE REMARKS ON AUHSD
From the viewpoint of an inner city school teacher, I am very appreciative of the quality AUHSD has to offer. Twelve of its high schools are accredited with the Western Association of Schools. The district's missions for high academic achievement, future careers, and responsible citizenship are ones that I also believe in. I am impressed with their academic facilities, the high number of credentialed teachers, and lack of staff turnover. I relate to the needs of their international student population.

CAMPAIGNING
I am available to speak to any organizations that are serious about hearing my platform as a candidate for the Governing Board of Education for the Anaheim Union High School District. If elected, I will strive to do my best for our students, their families, and the district.

Thank you for reading about my candidacy. Please share it with other concerned voters in the AUHSD boundaries of Cypress, La Palma, Buena Park, Stanton, and Anaheim.

Sincerely, Margaret M. Trousdale mmTrousdale@yahoo.com
