Affordable Housing

By Rubin Jamison Skipper

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Anaheim

This information is provided by the candidate
With the extremely high cost of real estate in Orange County, even families working 2 to 3 jobs are unable to afford to rent or purchase a home.
There are many organizations encouraging the development of affordable housing. The City of Anaheim has an opportunity to work with such organizations such as The Kennedy Commission to help establish programs aimed at providing safe affordable housing to our communities. We have many employees whom work in our local businesses and yet they cannot afford to live in these same areas due to the high cost of rent. Affordable housing is just a part of the solution. The local government must work to get minimum wage increased. It is impossible for anyone earning $6.75 to be able to raise and take care of a family or themselves. It is our responsibility as leaders to fight for these changes now.
