Budget Decifit

By Scott W. Nelson

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Placentia

This information is provided by the candidate
Regarding irresponsible spending by the current council
The current financial condition of Placentia has never been worse. 'Ontrac' costs and consulant fees, along with the 'Office Depot' fiasco have left us deeply in debt. The small budget surplus that we have (by some estimate less than $500,000) appears to be money that was raised by a prior 'certificate of participation'; in fact this is not surplus, but also debt for our city. The "Placentia Credit Card" is well past it's credit limit.

We cannot continue to have a council that spends money we do not have. Federal and state grants are not guaranteed until they are received, so it is vitally important to attempt projects only after we have the money. We also cannot continue to imperil basic city needs such as public safety, public work projects and much needed city programs.
