Tony Kawashima, Mayor, City of Tustin

Tony Kawashima was elected to the Tustin City Council in November 2000 in his first campaign for publics office. Tony not only considers it a great honor and responsibility, but also a privilege to serve the people of Tustin as their voice and advocate. Tony is especially concerned with issues that effect Tustin's families, children and seniors.

In addition to his role on the City Council and Mayor for the year 2004, Tony serves as a board member of the Orange County Sanitation District, The Orange County Public Library (Where he serves as board secretary) and the Tustin Area Senior Center. Tony is also the council liaison to the Tustin Unified School District and a member of the Tustin Library renovation task force.

Tony served on the Tustin Planning Commission prior to his election to the Tustin City Council.

Tony graduated with honors from California State University, Long Beach, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism and a minor in Anthropology. In 2000, Tony was elected to the Golden West College Alumni Hall of Fame. He has been the owner of a small business, "Photography by Tony Kawashima" for over 26 years and specializes in corporate photography. Tony is a native Californian, a 37-year resident of Orange County and a 14-year Tustin resident.

Tony has been married for 16 years and has two boys, ages 11 and 13, who are 6th and 8th graders at Pioneer Middle School in Tustin. Tony and his wife, Ellen, have been active in their children's schools and PTO.

The Tustin Unified School District, The Orange County Girl Scout Council and the Tustin Library have honored Tony for his volunteerism. Tony continues to be active as a judge for science fairs, scholarship awards and academic contests. Tony also is active as a PTO, service club, business group and school classroom (K-12) guest speaker.
