From 1965 to 1972, I served as Public Information Officer for the Cerritos Community College District in Norwalk, and as President of the California School Employees Association (CSEA, representing 104 non-certificated employees.

Leaving the college, I began employment with the City of Anaheim for 12 years, starting as the assistant public information officer. In 1978 I was promoted to PIO, serving as the spokesperson for all 14 major departments within the City, including the City Manager's Office, police and fire departments, parks and recreation, library, public utilities and public works, and the Convention Center and Stadium department. I prepared proclamations and resolutions on behalf of the Council, made public presentations before local groups about the City of Anaheim, and supervised a staff of six writers and photographers. In this role, I attended all City Council meetings and many Department Head meetings.

In 1979, I was one of the founders of Event Medical Services, Inc. -- a firm which provides comprehensive on-site professional first aid and medical services at events and public assembly facilities throughout California. In 1988, we opened branches in San Diego and San Jose. I was elected President of the Board and started on a full-time basis with the firm in 1983, leaving my relationship with the City of Anaheim. Our company provides nurses, physicians and emergency medical technicians at more than 3,500 events each year. There are five full-time employees and more than 70 contracted medical professionals.

I was responsible for bringing Automated External Defibrillators (AED's) into the County of Orange in 1996, becoming the first private agency to implement the use of these life-saving devices at public assembly facilities (such as the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, the Orange County Performing Arts Center and the Orange County Fair). At that time, five public agencies were using AED's. Today, more than 35 public and private agencies are equipped with AED's. In February, 2002, the Orange County EMS Agency awarded me the "EMS Advocacy Award" for this effort.

I am a member of the International Association of Assembly Managers; seved as a Service Board member for the Western Fairs Association; am a member of the Int'l Assn. of Event Mangers; served on the Education and Manpower Training Sub-Committee for the Orange County Emergency Medical Care Committee; am treasurer of the Calif. Council of EMS Educators; and am president of the Delta/Los Alamitos Business Center Assn. As a member of the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce, I am serving on three committees: Local Government, Business Development and I chair the Military Affairs Committee. I am also on the Chamber's Board of Directors. I also serve on the Board of Directors for our Youth Center and am secretary of the Los Alamitos/Seal Beach Rotary Club.

I was appointed to the City Traffic Commission in 2002 and now chair that important commission. As part of my desire to represent our citizens, I have attended every City Council meeting for more than 30 months; as well as regularly attend the Planning Commission, Parks and Recreation; and Cultural Affairs commission meetings. In 2003, I was one of 19 local residents to graduate the 10-week Citizen Police Academy. I was appointed by the City Council to serve on the Economic Development Committee to research ways to increase business activity and retention within the City. I am also a member of the Los Alamitos Citizens Advisory Committee for Orange County Supervisor Jim Silva (Second District). I particiapte in quarterly meetings with the Remediation Advisory Board (RAB) at the Joint Forces Training Base.

My wife Wendy, graduated in 2002 with her Master's Degree in Nursing from UCLA. She is now a nurse practitioner with the Cypress Family Medical Group. She is also certified as a critical care and emergency nurse and in advanced cardiac life support. As my soul mate, she participates with me at Event Medical Services, as our lead instructor on the AED program and is a nurse educator. She is an active member of the Precious Life Shelter, which Event Medical Services is a financial sponsor. We have six grown children and have been married for seven years this November. We also have six beautiful grand children. Our pride and joy is Kody, our three year old Yorkshire Terrier.

Event Medical Services is proud to be a financial sponsor for the Los Alamitos Pop Warner Youth Football and this year was a financial sponsor for the Concerts on the Green series at Laurel Park in Los Alamitos.
