Jon Dumitru is a lifelong resident of the City of Orange. Born at Chapman Hospital and raised on Sacramento Street, he now resides in Old Towne on South Orange Street. Most of the Dumitru family also live in Orange, and those not residing in the United States live in the southern European countries of Romania, Hungary, and Yugoslavia.

Jon has been very involved in the community since he was a boy. He was in Boy Scout Troop 1475, and received the Eagle Scout Award in 1986, the highest award for youth offered by the Boy Scouts of America. As an adult, Jon has been involved in a number of organizations including the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Orange County Firefighters Benevolent Association, California State Firefighters Association, Orange County Employees Association (a recent recipient of the President's Award), Association of Professional Communications Officers, Orange County Young Republicans, National Marrow Donor Program, Orange Community Chorus, Orange Dog Park Association, and Citizens Committee for Plaza Preservation.

A student in the Orange Unified School District during his entire schooling, Jon attended Handy Elementary School, Yorba Junior High School, and is a proud graduate of Orange High School (and still has "Panther Pride"). Jon has lived his life giving back to the community, and has been a strong advocate for the teachers and students of the school district. He was recently quoted as saying, "My family, church, teachers, and friends over the years have helped me develop into the man I am today. I owe each of them a great debt, and will always work to give back to those who have given so much of themselves to help me succeed."

Jon is a strong supporter of Orange's public safety program, as evidenced by his career in the fire service for well over 15 years. He now works a 24-hour on-call shift for the Orange County Fire Authority in the Emergency Command Center. He is responsible for receiving emergency calls for fire and medical assistance via 9-1-1; he then relays medical instructions as appropriate. Jon's duties also include coordinating firefighting and medical resources throughout Orange County. He has served as a volunteer firefighter, as well, and upon completion of the Riverside County Battalion 4 Volunteer Firefighter Academy, he was immediately assigned to assist and protect the residents of Riverside County. Jon is also an advisor in Explorer Post 540 - Emergency Services. This organization trains youth and adults in emergency services such as CPR, first aid, and earthquake preparedness.

Committed to helping resolve local issues, Jon has gained attention by demanding parks and fiscal responsibility. He believes strongly in government that protects citizens' rights, not one that abuses them. He is also very active on a state level, having worked for a number of issues; most recently, the "Rescue California Campaign, Recall Gray Davis" and for the Yes on Propositions 57 and 58 campaigns. All were successful.

Jon has been recognized by local media a number of times, from fighting for the rights of Orange residents and their needs, to delivering a baby on Mother's Day, to saving a young girl with a gunshot wound, and chasing a car-jacker down and holding him for the local police. Most recently, he was on national and local television and in print news for his organization of multiple "Support Our Troops" rallies throughout Orange County, the largest being in the City of Orange with nearly 800 participants.

When Jon is not busy protecting the community or involved in city, state or federal issues, he enjoys reading, going to the movies, and spending time in the mountains and at the beach.
