  • *Support Business/Continue to strengthen our economic base, without raising taxes

  • *Support Public Safety

  • *Growth Management/Quality of Life

In 2000 you elected me to strengthen our revenue, improve public safety and enhance our quality of life.

Fullerton is fiscally sound. While surrounding cities borrow from cash reserves, new Fullerton businesses and increasing property values have strengthened our economy.

Managing Fullerton under its toughest-ever budget constraints, I led the charge in improving Fullerton's Police and Fire Departments by putting more cops on the street and adding three new paramedic teams to better serve our residents, WITHOUT RAISING TAXES.

I strongly resisted the staff recommendation to raise your taxes for an aging sewer system by saying no to the obvious solution and reallocating our finances to pay for an unfunded mandate.

I meet with business leaders and auto dealers on a regular basis because one of the keys to future success is retention. We have brought new business growth after the mass exodus of businesses in the late 1990's. In spite of the devastating impacts of September 11, 2001, Fullerton has a sound economy with fiscally responsible leadership.

In 1999, 30 massage parlors and several pawn shops were located in and about Downtown Fullerton. Many of the massage parlors were fronts for prostitution. We now have an increasingly family friendly Downtown Fullerton and have said no to massage parlors and pawn shops on every corner.

Now we face future development in key areas of our city. In March of 2003 when it was not popular to do so, I came out against an overcrowded development in West Coyote Hills. I have been quoted as saying, "I will not support a high density, cookie cutter development in West Coyote Hills." I stand by this statement today.
