A Letter to the Community

By Jon Betow

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Tustin

This information is provided by the candidate
Dear Neighbors,

Through the years our city has seen some explosive growth and we continue to grow as the Tustin Legacy project moves forward. While much of the growth has been and will be a benefit to our community the management of this growth continues to be a problem and a challenge.

We must take the necessary steps that will benefit all our community members today and preserve the future for those that follow behind us. By working together we will ensure that Tustin continues to be a great place to live, work and play.

I will work hard to ensure fiscal responsibility, making sure we maximize every dollar spent while continuing to find creative ways to increase our reserves in the face of the States fiscal irresponsibility.

We must better manage the increased traffic in our community and put a stop to the traditional "patch and fix" approach that continues to be taken in regards to our traffic congestion problems. We must start making the much needed improvements that will solve these issues for years to come.

I will work for and with the community on additional parks with improved parking and much more room for playground and picnic equipment. We must include a new skate park and additional soccer, softball and baseball fields for our adult and youth athletic organizations.

Additionally I will support the efforts to provide affordable housing, move the new Tustin Library project forward, create a lasting and productive relationship with the school district, protect our cities heritage in Old Town and keep pace with the public safety needs of the community by continuing to support our first rate police and fire departments.

If elected I will take a dedicated, "hands-on" approach to these and other issues and make myself available to every member of the community when called upon. I will promote the healthy growth of our city while continuing to maintain the small town feel that makes Tustin such a unique community.

I have strong ties to our city and my family has been a part of the community since the 1930's. My grandfather proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in Tustin during the 40's and 50's and my children are 4th generation students attending Tustin Schools.

It would be an honor and privilege to represent your interest as a member of the Tustin City Council and I know that together we will find the solutions.

Jon Betow
