I have managed mental healthcare organizations, served as a consultant in healthcare management, and taught administrative courses to graduate healthcare students since 1977. I have worked with different healthcare management systems and supervised students in many more. All of those systems had strengths and none were perfect, just like the Marin Healthcare District and Marin General Hospital.

The time has come when we must quit looking back, must abandon old prejudices against systems and personalities. We must work together in partnership with our medical teams, with consumers, with Sutter, and all whose cooperation is needed to ensure the healthcare that the Marin community wants and deserves.

There is no point to the struggle between Sutter Health and the Healthcare District Board. The conflict merely consumes precious time and money needed to meet the pending earthquake safety requirements and other services needs.

I will be a practical, common sense board member, working with the system to improve quality of care, increase patient and provider satisfaction, and create sustainable financing so we can be confident the care we need will be available when we need it.
