  • Adjunct English Professor, American River College (2000-present) Teach English Composition and Advanced Composition/Rhetoric
  • Graduate student/Graduate Teaching Assistant, University of California, Davis (1996-98) Taught undergraduate creative writing classes; assisted in teaching undergradtuate short story class. Served on Graduate English Committee, and English Department Committee. Graduated with a 3.92 GPA.
  • Chief, Search and Rescue, 17th Coast Guard District, Juneau, Alaska (1992-94) Oversaw search and rescue operations in a geographic region larger than the continental United States. Coordinated widely dispersed Coast Guard resources (ships, aircraft, personnel) in life-and-death rescue efforts. Direct supervision of Rescue Coordination Center, a twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week operation. Supervised and evaluated staff comprised of officers, enlisted and civilians. Collateral duty: District Civil Rights Officer. Oversaw civil rights/EEO program affecting over 2000 Coast Guard and civilian personnel.
  • Commanding Officer, Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento (1989-92) Commanded a major Coast Guard aviation unit (170+ personnel, 4 HC-130 fixed-wing long range aircraft). Responsible for long range search and rescue extending from Alaskan border to South America to Hawaii. Managed budget in excess of $3 million. Supervised and evaluated officers and enlisted personnel.
  • Executive Officer, Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater (1986-89) Administrative supervisor for one of Coast Guard's largest units (600+ military and civilian personnel). Budget in excess of $6 million. Oversaw evaluation of officers and enlisted. Involved in negotiations with civilian contract employees.
  • Coast Guard Attaché, Port-au-Prince, Haiti (1984-86) Senior military advisor to the Ambassador. In charge of the Haitian Migrant Interdiction Program. Direct liaison with Commandant of Haitian Navy. Conducted direct negotiations with Foreign Minister of Haitian government. Was senior military coordinator of team that successfully removed President Jean-Claude Duvalier from Haiti.
  • Commanding Officer, Coast Guard Aircraft Program Office (1980-84) Commanded Coast Guard's largest fixed-wing acquisition contract (over $400 million). Responsible for all aspects of contract, from drawing board to delivery. Negotiated with prime contractor and subcontractors.
