1. What can be done to ensure that California gets its fair share of federal resources?

Answer from Gail K. Lightfoot:

Taxes can be cut so the residents of California keep their hard earned income to spend here on the needs of their families and communities. California does not need (nor does it get) federal help on the level its citizens could provide if not for the money sent to Washington to be siphoned off by agency costs and the needs of other states. California can and should provide for its own needs without passing our money through Washington first.

2. What are your foreign policy priorities for the United States?

Answer from Gail K. Lightfoot:

Non-intervention in the internal affairs of other nations. This is not isolationism. It is recognition of our respect for others on the international as well as the personal level. America has the ability to influence the world in positive ways with trade agreements instead of warriors. We should use our vast economic resources to assist other nations to become prosperous by encouraging an open free enterprise economic system doing business with all nations. Bring our troops home!

3. What are your priorities for the federal budget?

Answer from Gail K. Lightfoot:

Reduce, reduce, reduce. The federal government has overstepped the limits placed on it by the US Constitution. It is time to look at every piece of legislation and every agency, determine the Constitutionality of every part of that legislation and repeal unconstitutional laws and agencies. The review process would allow time to consider other options to meet the needs of our citizens. State's Rights would be restored and much of the federal budget eliminated.

Responses to questions asked of each candidate are reproduced as submitted to the League.
