Three Strikes Law

By Stella L. Owens-Murrell

Candidate for Superior Court Judge; County of Los Angeles; Office 111

This information is provided by the candidate
Position On Amending Three Strikes You're Out Law
Because the law as it is currently written is so overly broad in the types of offenses that can count as a strike, repeat offenders are subject to serving lengthy sentences where convicted for the commission of a non violent felony offense. Moreover, the three strikes statute has statistically had a disproportinately adverse effect on indigent and minority defendants. Legislation is necessary to limit the application of the law to strikes for a series of violent felony offenses only.
