Superior Court Judge; County of Los Angeles; Office 67

This information is provided by the candidate

Daniel K. Dik was born and raised in Long Beach, California, the son of a truck driver and a nurse, and the grandson of immigrants from Eastern Europe. He is a product of the Long Beach public school system, thereafter graduating with distinction in 1982 from Cal State Long Beach, receiving a B.S. in microbiology. He worked for years as a licensed medical laboratory technologist, at L.A. County-Harbor UCLA Medical Center, and at Long Beach Community Hospital.

Dan returned to school, graduating in 1991 from the Gould School of Law at the University of Southern California. While at U.S.C., Dan was an editorial staff member on the Computer Law Journal and on the Major Tax Planning Journal. He also published a paper, dealing with the intersection of antitrust and copyright law with respect to computer products, foreshadowing the issues involved in the later Microsoft antitrust cases.

Dan took an associate position with an old-line downtown Los Angeles firm, McKenna, Connor & Cuneo, later McKenna & Fitting, doing corporate transactional work. That firm went out of business in April, 1993. Dan then re-made himself as a litigation attorney. First working with O'Flaherty & Belgum, then with the various permutations of the O'Flaherty firm, and then transferring in June 2001 to Fonda, Hilberman and Fraser, now Fonda & Fraser, Dan has experienced a remarkable level of success in court on behalf of his clients. He is recognized by peers as having a prodigious mastery of the laws of evidence and procedure. His current litigation practice is in the fields of general business litigation, wrongful termination, harassment/discrimination, employment law, and medical and legal malpractice.

Dan has served as a Judge Pro Tem, essentially a substitute judge, for the Los Angeles County Superior Court for more than five years, hearing small claims and traffic matters. He has often served at the Metropolitan Courthouse just south of Downtown, the high-volume traffic court for L.A. Dan has taught E.S.L. to recent immigrants, served on graffiti removal teams, and donates to several local charities. In his free time, he enjoys freshwater fishing, hiking, playing mediocre golf, and traveling. His goal is to visit each continent on Earth at least once. Dan is a landlord, and homeowner, residing currently in Monterey Park, California.
