This issue may very well be the major challenge for the City in the next four years. The City will be not only be dealing with the fiscal crisis happening in Sacramento but there will also be additional events occurring in the next several years in the City that will negatively impact the City's General Fund significantly.

This impact is enormous and will become a major test our management ability. It will take all of the experience of my time on the Council and twenty five years in business to help guide the City though this.

One part of this fiscal issue will have a direct effect on District Six. Unless a new version is approved, in 2007 Measure C, the 1/2 cent sales tax dedicated to transportation projects will expire. Currently, 100% of all infrastructure repairs and street maintenance funds for District Six comes from Measure C. Starting in 2007 there may not be any funds available to repair your street, sidewalk, curb, gutters and street trees.

Other City services will be impacted significantly as well.

During my first term I have established some very significant relationships with key elected officials in Sacramento and Washington D.C.. These relationships will be very helpful as we work through these tough issues.
