I am an Oakland public school parent, educator with close to 20 years in public education, and the President of the Alameda County Board of Education. During my tenure, I led the County Board of Education to balanced budgets; increased resources for classrooms and teachers in special education and independent study programs; increased academic and financial accountability of county schools; supported credentialing and training programs for teachers; established public private partnerships; and developed parent involvement strategies. As well as, I have worked with the County Superintendent and staff to improve fiscal accountability and turn around the finances of Albany, Berkeley and Emeryville districts. I will do everything I can to ensure that Oakland likewise establishes a sound financial basis. This election is about accountability, credibility, and responsibility. I support the State's investigation of the Oakland schools due to false budget statements; for financial mismanagement; and for a national-record $100 million deficit. I have broad support in the community - from parents at my children's schools to teachers to legislators to business leaders to labor unions. Vote for leadership you can depend on. I respectfully request your vote.
