Livability and Downtown Revitalization

By Olden P. Henson

Candidate for Council Member; City of Hayward

This information is provided by the candidate
This wonderfully diverse community that we call home is on the cusp of an downtown economic renaissance not seen since the mid 1970's. A new movie theatre complex, an anchor Cost Plus, and new restaurants provide the amenities desired by our citizens and contribute to the livability of our community.
With a vigorous campaign to clean up our city and use our Community Preservation Services to notice those who are not in compliance, Hayward will be a cleaner city as well as one that entices new homeowners and investors. Our classic downtown had been dormant with the inception of shopping malls, however rehabilitation of B street, hub of a 5 year old City Hall, a new Albertson's store based shopping area, the coming 12 screen cinemas and restaurants, the nearby awardwinning Cannery project and other transportation projects will transform our downtown into the downtown that is pedestrian oriented, has adequate parking and is a destination point. I look forward to seeing families enjoying a revitalized downtown.
