Candidate for
Director; Novato Fire Protection District

This information is provided by the candidate

I have lived in Novato for over 32 years. Myself and my wife have raised our 3 children here and it is a wonderful place to live. I recently retired from the Novato Fire District as Deputy Fire Marshal. I have been part of the Novato Fire team for over 27 years. I have been responsible for many projects in Novato some of which include Hazardous/Flammable vegetation removal projects known as "Chipper Days" in Bahia, Green Point, Blackpoint and other areas in our community. I have served as one of Novato's first HEART (Homeowners Emergency Action Response Team) instructors. I was the Chariman of Novato's Ambulance replacement committee, conducting a needs assessment, developing specificfications, awarding the contract, overseeing construction and taking delivery at the factory in Alabama and driving it to Novato. I have been involved in many organizations such as Northern California Fire Prevention Officers Association, Marin County Fire Prevention Officers Association serving as President in 1991. I have served as a Team Leader of the Marin County Arson Investigation Team. I was one of Novato's first CPR instructors. I was awarded "Firefighter Of The Year" in 1993 for accomplishments in Fire Prevention for Novato. I have attended College of Marin and Santa Rosa J.C. and was accepted to St. Mary's College to complete a degree in Fire Science. I see many exciting things ahead for the Novato Fire District such as opening Station 5, bringing 12 lead EKG's to our community, the transformation of our personell from seasoned veterans, who have recently retired, to many new well qualified people including 3 new female firefighter/Paramedics, a first for Novato. My goal is to be a team player on the board and support all members of the organization as well as listen to the needs of our community while maintaining our high standards in a fiscally responsive way.
