My private life has shaped by public life.

Being a working mother taught me many things--like the importance of quality, affordable pre-school and childcare for working families.

My parents, 2nd generation Japanese Americans, were denied the opportunity to pursue a college education. My father worked very hard to ensure that his children would a change to go to college.

Today, I worked the Associate Vice President of University Advancement and Development at San Francisco State University, I work to expand educational opportunities for students and improve access to an affordable education.

I developed curriculum and am an adjunct professor with the College of Ethnic Studies. As a board member of the SFSU Foundation, I oversee the university's endowment investment policies.

For my community service, I received the Marin County Human Rights Commission's Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award and Special Appreciation Award from the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Marin Community College Board will be making critical decisions--the hiring of a new College President, major renovation of both the Kentfield and IVC campuses and consideration of a 200 million dollar facilities bond. I offer experience from the classroom, educational administration, and community building to enrich the Board, ensure that the discussions reflect the great diversity of Marin and decision-making that is responsive to the changing needs of its students, faculty and community.

On November 4, 2003, Marin County voters will have an opportunity to elect four members to the Marin Community College District Board. With your support, I can bring change, renewal and leadership to the Community College Board. I would appreciate your vote on November 4th.
