I am Michael J. Wozniak and I am a candidate for Governor of California.

I was born in Oakland, California on January 18, 1951. My father, A. Joseph Wozniak was a native of the state of New York and was a veteran of the attack on Pearl Harbor. My father was assigned to the light cruiser, U.S.S. Phoenix, anchored in Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. He was on his way to church that Sunday morning, then rushed to his ship to shoot back, as he was a Gunner's Mate. When the war was over, my father remained in California.

My Mother, Charlotte Marie Rodriguez worked in the shipyards during the war as a welder. She is a native of Los Angeles, and assisted in the war effort in Oakland and Alameda. When the war was over, they met and I am the result of that love affair and marriage.

My mother has a brother, Augustine Rodriguez who is currently a resident of Oakland, California.

I was born in Oakland at Peralta Hospital. For a short time our family lived in Hayward, until my father bought a home in San Leandro. This house was built in April 1953 and it is where I reside to this day.

As a child, I attended local San Leandro schools. When my father died of a heart attack in 1962 and my mother subsequently remarried, we moved to Contra Costa County. After graduation from Liberty Union High School in Brentwood, I secured a factory job in San Leandro and moved back into the family home.

I soon found factory work unsatisfying and attended the Santa Clara School of Bartending, and upon graduation, took a job in San Mateo as a restaurant manager. I changed jobs taking a bartending job in the East Bay in Emeryville at a dinner house. While there, I became interested in the Alameda County Sheriff's Department Reserve Officer program and completed that academy in 1975. I worked as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff until my employment with the Oakland California Police Department in 1977. I was a patrol officer for most of my career in Oakland except for a tour as Desk Officer at the main station of the Police Department.

I retired in 1997 and have been working part time at the Oakland Harley-Davidson dealership since then. I have been active in many community charities and work closely with the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, Inc.
