My candidacy for the Ventura County Board of Education

This information is provided by the candidate
I have served the people of the County of Ventura in the field of education, labor, health, civil rights and job training.
I am running for the Ventura County Board of Education Board of Trustees Area 1. At present I am a certificated faculty member at Ventura College in the position of Reference/Research Librarian. I have been a librarian for 29 years, 28 of which have been at Ventura College. I have served the Ventura County community in the Education, Labor, Health, Civil Rights, and Job Training.

Education

My experience in education has been very diverse: I have served as a representative and Past President of the Ventura College Academic Senate. I have served in many campus, district, and statewide committees dealing with community college issues such as budget and student services.

Labor

Current Vice President California Federation of Teachers. (CFT) Served many terms as Treasurer and President of the Ventura County Federation of College Teachers AFT Local 1828 and representative to the Tri-Counties Labor Council.

Health

A founder, past president and board member of Clinicas del Camino Real, a local health agency which offers high quality health services to people with low income and farm workers.

Civil Rights

A founder, and past board member of El Concilio del Condado de Ventura, an agency that was established by Latino activists to protect and defend the civil rights of Latinos in Ventura County.

Job Training

I have served the community in job training boards, CETA, JTPA (was Chair of the Summer Youth Employment Program), and presently Board Member of the Workforce Investment Board (WIB)of Ventura County. These agencies have been involved in training the youth, unemployed, and underemployed members of the community.
