CAROL REESE ORTON Age: 46

Occupation: Community Volunteer

Education and Qualifications:

I would like to serve as a member of the Menlo Park City School District Governing Board because I am committed to ensuring that the children in our community receive an excellent education from our local public schools. I believe my professional, personal and volunteer experiences provide the background needed for this position.

After completing my education (Stanford B.A. 1978; Indiana University J.D. 1981), I practiced law in San Francisco for fifteen years. My husband and I have lived in Menlo Park for nine years. Our two daughters have attended district schools since kindergarten (we have a third grader at Oak Knoll, and a sixth grader at Hillview).

My service to our school district includes: board member, Menlo Park-Atherton Education Foundation, 1998-present (President in 2000-2001); Site Council, Oak Knoll School, 1996-2002; member, District Liaison Council (interviewed school superintendent candidates), Spring 2002; Steering Committee, Measure A Parcel Tax, 1999-2000; and many volunteer efforts at Oak Knoll and Hillview schools.

As a member of the Governing Board, my goals are to maintain and enhance the high quality of education in the district, retain and attract an excellent teaching staff, and ensure high accountability to the community of the school district's efforts.

Thank you for your support.

/s/ Carol Reese Orton
