RUBEN ABRICA Age: 53

Occupation: Instructor, De Anza Community College
Intercultural /International Studies

Education and Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Education, Stanford University; B.A., Occidental College; Vocational School in Mexico.

I have lived in the community for 23 years and have served as a volunteer in many capacities. As a school board member I have worked hard to help meet the diverse needs of all our children.

Education is the job of everyone: the schools, the family, the student, and the community. The many accomplishments of students, parents and the school district need to be celebrated. At the same time, the schools and central administration must continue to improve and be accountable to students, families, and the community.

This past year, the district implemented: 1) a vastly improved special education system focused on service and outcomes for students; 2) a dual language program where all students will become literate in English and Spanish; 3) groundbraking of new school and community facilities and playing fields, and 4) an expanded after school program.

With your support, I will continue to work to: 1) expand collaboration efforts with community and government organizations; 2) enrich the curriculum for high school and college preparation; 3) improve school and community communication and 4) strengthen accountability at all levels.

Thank you for your consideration.

/s/ Ruben Abrica
