Collaboration with Recreation

Los Osos is in need of a Parks and Recreation Program; the Los Osos CSD addresses this concern in its mission statement. To date, there is no budget to implement such a program.
A few years ago an assessment vote to approve $10 per household was defeated by a slim margin. I believe, the community at large, would like to see such a program implemented. At this time it is unlikely that another attempt at an initiative would be successful.
I am proposing a collaborative effort with the business community, to "seed" a recreation program budget.
My proposal is to offer a sponsorship program where Los Osos business and community members are invited to join a "Partners in Parks and Recreation Sponsors Club." The idea includes a four tiered membership participation opportunity. Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal Sponsor memberships would be available.
My proposal would include a tax deductible membership fee. (I am diligently trying to get this before both LOCSD Parks and Rec. Committee and LOCSD Board of Directors, to be approved as soon as possible. My attempts in both August and September were a met with disappointment.)
If the Los Osos "Partners in Parks and Recreation Sponsors Club" included Chamber of Commerce members, service clubs, and private individuals all making the same pledge, imagine the possibilities.
When a community shows its commitment, it also shows grant providers that their financial contribution is needed, and appreciated. This sponsorship club would show these providers their contributions would not be wasted, because our community has made the investment too. There are numerous grants available through state, federal and private agencies.
Given the chance, Los Osos Parks and Recreation could have a "seed" fund by summer 2003.
