Shall School Facilities Improvement District No. 1 (Paso Robles Union Elementary School District Area) issue bonds in the amount of $5,900,000, at the lowest available interest rate per annum within the legal limits, to provide adequate classrooms, rehabilitate buildings and playgrounds, and construct library/multi-use buildings, with a citizens' oversight committee to monitor and audit bond expenditures?

Arguments For Measure M-02 Arguments Against Measure M-02
Over the past year, a committee of concerned citizens, comprised of community leaders, parents and school staff, studied the conditions of our local school facilities. That study revealed that the number of children attending Paso Robles schools has dramatically increased, and that the electrical, heating and air conditioning, lighting, plumbing systems and other infrastructures in our schools are deteriorating and need repair. This is not unexpected in light of the fact that two of our elementary schools are over 45 years old, and Flamson Middle School is 75 years old. Crowding in our schools and deteriorating older facilities are impacting the quality of education for our children.

The school district has made every effort to manage its resources wisely in order to maintain our schools. Funds from our now expired tax-override were used to build four elementary schools, one middle school, and Paso Robles High School. In addition, the district has realized maximum benefits from state and federal funding.

Measure M-02 pertains only to those property taxpayers who live within the boundaries of the former elementary district. Measure M-02 will support $5.9 million in projects and the tax rate will be approximately $23 per $100,000 of accessed valuation. Measure M- 02 will:

  • Repair and upgrade Flamson Middle School
  • Renovate a portion of Georgia Brown Elementary School
  • Renovate a portion of Glen Speck Elementary School
  • Remove and rebuild one wing of classrooms at Lewis Middle School

The money raised by Measure M-02 will remain in our community and benefit our children. None of the funds will be used for anything other than the identified facilities, and an independent citizens committee will monitor all expenditures on those projects.

Please support adequate facilities for our children. Vote yes on Measure M-02
