Downtown Development-

By John Hoffman

Candidate for Council Member; City of Oceanside

There are two separate downtown issues, parking and an upscale beach resort.
There are two separate downtown issues, parking and an upscale beach resort. One parking solution be considered by city council, is a multi-story parking structure at the current parking lot north/west of the train/bus depot. Though this would help the downtown area, parking will continue to be a problem for businesses along Pacific Coast Highway and must be addressed.

I think that everyone is in agreement that a first class resort would help improve tourism in Oceanside. I feel that the Manchester project was too ambitious to pass the Coastal Commission. A project located entirely east of Pacific Street and that is limited to hotel rooms, meeting rooms and restaurants would better suit Oceanside's needs. I would like to see continual redevelopment of the Pacific Coast Highway business district. By attracting more retail, entertainment and eating establishments, we will add desperately needed tax revenue sources.
