Smart Voter Full Biography for John Hoffman

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Oceanside

Mr. Hoffman and his family moved to Oceanside in 1993 from Lake Forrest California. A native Southern Californian, he was born in Covina. He moved to North Tustin at the age of 13 and graduated from El Modena High School in Orange. After high school he attended local community college and then Cal State Long Beach. Prior to graduating he was hired by the Tustin Police Department as a Reserve Police officer in 1981 and enrolled in the police academy. Mr. Hoffman was a Reserve Police officer for one year and in 1982 began fulltime employment as a regular officer with the City of Tustin. He received over 40 commendations during his 8 years of employment including Officer of the Month twice.

In 1990, Mr. Hoffman left law enforcement to operate his own video production business. Over the next 12 years he has produced videos and multimedia presentations for companies such as, Apple Computer, The Upper Deck Company, Phillips Electronics, Asics Tiger, Pacific Life, Southern California Edison and many others. These companies and others hired Mr. Hoffman because of his creativity, management and budgeting skills as well as his attention to details and timelines.

Mr. Hoffman is married to his wife of fifteen years, Karen. They have three children, Brittany 14, Gregory 12, and Ian 8. They all attend public school in the Vista Unified School District.
