Reducing class size by placing more qualified teachers in classrooms!

By John De Beck

Candidate for Board Member; San Diego Unified School District; District C

The layer of experts looking over the shoulders of teachers could raise student achievement more if they taught instead of supervised.
When I taught---the only supervisor I had was my principal. With the $150 million Blueprint "REFORM" every teacher may have the following supervisory personnel (average salary) in their classroom doing coaching: An Instructional Leader ($110,000), a Principal ($90,000), a Staff Developer ($75,000), a Subject Matter Supervisor ($80,000)! Sometimes they can all be there at once! Talk about pressure!

And to make matters worse, the coaching provided by these "experts" is sometimes contradictory! No wonder the American Institute of Research reported high teacher stress and confusion over what is right! (Report February 12)

If some of these bureaucrats were back in the classroom where they belong, class size could be reduced in grades 3 to 6 by at least 10 students! These folks are supposed to be the best and the brightest, so student achievement should increase more than the present experiment!

You need a critical thinker on your board of education! John de Beck asks hard questions!
