My parenting skills, school involvement, formal education and business experience qualify me as an ideal candidate for the school board. Back in 1994 I was part of the grass roots movement to build a new high school and participated in passing the bond Measures G & H to unify our school district and to build a new high school. In 1996 I successfully petitioned the community to show our school board that they had the community support to reduce class sizes for 3 grades simultaneously. This made our school district the first in the county to reduce all grades 1, 2, & 3 in the fall of 1996. Shortly thereafter I was a Co-Founder of "Parents For a High School at Glenwood". I attended EIR meetings beyond midnight to speak in favor of building our new high school.

1998 through 2001 I was a member of the Brook Knoll School Site Council. My contributions included developing and organizing an emergency phone tree for the school which is still in use today. During my last term of Site Council, I successfully convinced Council to spend API award money on the much needed athletic field upgrade and running track.

1999 through 2001 I was the Brook Knoll PTA President. Under my leadership we purchased school playground equipment, sponsored several school assemblies, gave thousands of dollars in classroom endowments, and financially supported curriculum resources.

I have been a member of the Superintendent's Facilities Committee since 1999 and the SVUSD Budget Committee since 2000.

In March 2002 I was the Chairwoman of Measure B school facilities bond. The school bond required a 67% majority vote and was defeated by less that 1%. I am dedicated to seeing the completion of new and better facilities at all our schools.

In 2001 I began my term as Parent Club President at the Scotts Valley Middle School. Last year we grossed over $98,000 in revenues. Under my leadership, we were able to put thousands of dollars back into the individual teacher classrooms, upgrade the multi-purpose room & purchase a salad bar for healthy student lunches. I also worked closely with the SVMS school Site Council to successfully upgrade our athletic fields. In July 2002 I spearheaded the conversion to and formation of a local PTA Chapter. I continue to serve as its President.

As this year's SVMS PTA President I am proud to say that we successfully completed our recent magazine drive and the students sold close to $70,000 in magazines, resulting in a net profit close to $26,000. At our October 15, 2002 PTA Association meeting we voted to put $500 in each and every classroom at SVMS for discretionary classroom resource spending. At total of $16,500 will be deposited in their accounts at the end of next week.

I am in a unique position to serve on the SVUSD School Board. I'm a very proactive, determined and focused individual. I have strong leadership skills and am in touch with the needs of the school system and community.

As a member of the District Budget Committee, I am acutely aware of our budgetary constraints and I am interested in seeking out other funding possibilities for our schools such as a corporate sponsorships and foundational grants. Future joint use facility agreements with the City of Scotts Valley can be built upon.

A persons actions define what they stands for. In my commitment to our educational system, I have facilitated positive changes in the community in a number of ways over the past 8 years.
