Improving academic student success so students are properly prepared for entry into college

By John Taylor

Candidate for Board Member; Elk Grove Unified School District; Area 2

This information is provided by the candidate
Approximately forty-six percent of incoming freshman can't read, write or do math at the college level and must take remedial classes to be able to perform at the required level necessary to succeed in college.
Regarding improving academic student success, as an assessment proctor at Cosumnes River College, I saw first hand how poorly prepared true freshman are. Approximately forty-six percent of incoming freshman can't read, write or do math at the college level and must take remedial classes to be able to perform at the required level necessary to succeed in college. I want all students to be given a fair opportunity to achieve student success in the Elk Grove Unified School District. I would allow teachers the academic freedom needed to teach the curriculum in their classroom. This would allow them to use their experience in the classroom to give all learning levels of students a fair opportunity to achieve academic student success and if I'm elected it will be my number one priority.
