You now have air operations in the Metro Fire District

By James M. "Jim" Stewart

Candidate for Board Member; Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District; Division 7

Providing more service in the form of a Helicopter
Recently we purchased 5 surplus Huey helicopters from the U.S. Army and had them shipped to our regional training center at the former McClellan Air Force Base. We selected the one in the best shape and had it shipped to San Joaquin Helicopters in the central valley. It was completely rebuilt and repowered with a new engine and transmission.

We feel that this addition to the equipement we have in service will really add another dimension to the way we fight fire in our District.

We have a lot of wildland in the District and some of it is not easily accessible to trucks. The helicopter will aid us in delivering water to stop fires in hard to reach areas. It will also be available to evacuate the injured at multi-casualty incidents, like the one on I-5, 7 years ago. It will also be available for uses in our war against terrorism if needed by law enforcement.
