My name is Tom Malson and I am asking for your Vote on November 5th, 2002.

I was born in Pennsylvania, but before arriving in Sacramento to attend High School, I had traveled around the world, lived in Indonesia for 2 years and had visited 17 countries along the way. After graduating from Cal Poly, living in Salinas, CA. and then North Canton, Ohio our family finally settled in Galt 21 years ago.

I have been married to my wife Grace for 29 years. She has worked for the City of Galt Police & Finance Departments and the past 10 years at SCT/Link (formerly TRACS). Our daughter started school in Galt and graduated from Galt High School. Along the way she was on the Galt Gators Swim Team, played soccer, fast pitch softball and has worked at the Gora Aquatic Center since 1995. She is also currently attending college.

I have been involved with our City's Planning since 1986, have attended League of California Cities Planning Conferences and a 16 week SACOG sponsored course on 'The Practice of Local Government Planning'. During this period I was also appointed to 4 regional and 4 City Commissions/Committee's.

I have seen our City grow from a population of less than 5,000 to over 21,000. The 'experts' say that generally things double about every 10 years and so far that is holding true. However, with Consumes River flood plain to the north, County line to the south, Nature Conservatory & 2 acre lots to the west, no desire by the citizens to expand eastward and being dependent on ground water, we may be closer than we think to 'build-out'.

We need qualified Council Members that understand the importance of updating Galt's General Plan, increasing retail & commercial tax base, expanding our sphere of influence, planning a green belt between Galt & Elk Grove and working cost effective solutions for city, school, fire and transportation joint use facilities.

Why I Am Running?

I believe that my community involvement, experience and qualifications have prepared me well to serve as one of your representatives on Galt's City Council. I would very much appreciate your support. Call me if you have any questions, comments or concerns.

Sincerely,

Tom

Quote from Lodi News Sentinel Editorial Board:

"Thomas J. Malson, a city planning commissioner and an engineer, is among the most knowledgeable of the candidates. Like Clare, he is willing to do the heavy lifting that often comes with appointed or elective office, serving on the Sacramento Solid Waste Advisory Committee and the Environmental Commission."
