Candidate for
Board Member; Center Unified School District

My name is Nancy Anderson. I have had the honor of representing you on the Center Unified School District Board of Trustees for 8 years. I was elected President of the Board twice. My husband Larry and I have lived in the area our entire lives. We were married 28 years ago and have 2 sons, Jason and Mike. I spent 15 years volunteering in local Little Leagues providing the children in our area with a safe after-school activity. I have completed the Masters of Governance Program, Served on the District Audit Committee, Budget Committee, School Site Councils, PTA and many more.

I first decided to run for the school board afte being involved as a volunteer in the classroom, on district committees and with the PTA. I was concerned that money was not getting into the classroom where it was needed the most. One of the board's first actions after I took office was to cut administrative staff, returning money to the classroom. Although we have had many budget cuts since then, we have been able to bring music and art back to the classroom. We have expanded collaboration time for elementary teachers, reduced class sizes and opened the new Antelope View Charter School. Antelope View was designed to allow parents in our community to home-school their children while still allowing them to take advantage of the district's resources, perhaps a needed class or team sports. Our schools should serve the entire community.
