May 4, 1970 was a day that would forever change my life. I knew one of the students killed at Kent State University in Ohio. It influenced my decision to attend Kent State a few years later where I became involved in Student Government. I was a founding member of the May 4th Task Force which pressured the university to acknowledge what happened on campus and memorialize the anniversary. Since then, I have always wanted to be involved within the community. To have a say in helping to keep it the kind of place I and my neighbors are proud to call home. I have lived in the San Fernando Valley since 1978. When developers wanted to build homes at the southern end of Reseda Blvd and connect it to Mulholland Drive, I joined with a number of other concerned citizens and became The Friends of Caballero Canyon. We forced the developer to donate land as an access point into Topanga State Park and stopped the extension of Reseda Blvd. When Laura Chick became our Councilperson, I became her representative on the Los Angeles Bicycle Advisory Committee. I am still on the BAC. We determine where bicycle lanes, paths, and routes are to be throughout Los Angeles and work with MTA, Cal Trans and the Mayor's Office. She also appointed me as a member of her Neighborhood Planning Advisory Committee for Woodland Hills / West Hills and as an alternate for the Pierce College Prop A Oversight Committee. I also co-chaired her study on the Burbank-Chandler Transportation Corridor. I currently am on the Board of the West Hills Neighborhood Council.
