A City Owned by the People

By Igaal Barak

Government has to focus on effectively serving the people at minimum costs. The extent of services is determined by the people through elections, access to representatives, and neighborhood councils.
We, as a government, are obligated to treat all our constituents equally as individuals regardless of their political affiliations or financial prowess. Transparency in government means that every action we take and every penny we spend are not only open to public scrutiny, but are the result of public endorcement. We all want effective law enforcement, excellent education, and other city services that enhance our quality of life. The purpose of the new city is to provide all of the above at the lowest costs possible by focusing on the real customer, the tax payer, rather than on political pressure groups such as the unions, real estate developers, and political power brokers.

My main issue in this elections is to create a competent governing body that will develop a culture of full accountability to the citizens of this city. Running a large city is a complex process, and it is essential to develop the new government to be effective and efficient administratively and culturally. A culture of service, accountability, the good of the public, and teamwork, will create a paradigm that rarely exists in large city government.

My education and experience are in engineering, education, business, and construction. I am an MBA, and I am currently working on my dissertation for my doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership at Pepperdine University, School of Education. I've participated in the start-up team of two major corporations, and was the head of the start-up team and the CEO of two construction firms. I am married and the father of seven children. My daughter Narquis is finishing her dissertation for her PhD at Harvard University, department of Anthropology, and is teaching anthropology at Stanford University. My son Orr is finishing his MD/PhD studies at the University of Pennsylvania.

I am paying for my own elections, and only the citizens of the new city can influence my decisions.
