JOHN W. MEHL Age: 58
Occupation: Educator

Education & Qualifications:
I seek the office of County Superintendent of Schools out of a commitment to serve the students and school districts of San Mateo County. The office carries out a vitally important role as an intermediary between the state and local school districts to help implement programs, provide fiscal oversight, monitor teachers' credentials, supply curriculum support and training and assist in other areas of interest to local districts. This responsibility requires wide-ranging experience. I bring to the job a Ph.D. degree in education and 29 consecutive years of successful school district administration in San Mateo County. This includes 7 years in various administrative positions in the Cabrillo Unified School District, 11 years as superintendent of the San Bruno Park School District and 11 years as associate superintendent in the San Mateo County Office of Education. As County Superintendent, I will provide sound fiscal leadership for our county's school districts, control costs and fight to obtain adequate funding for special education, promote legislation critical to the welfare of education in our county, seek new opportunities to expand collaboration between education and the business community, and promote workable solutions to housing and transportation issues which affect education in our county.

Solicito el puesto de Superintendente de Escuelas del Condado de San Mateo debido a la obligación que siento de servir a los estudiantes y a los distritos escolares del Condado de San Mateo. El puesto cumple una función vitalmente importante como intermediario entre los distritos escolares estatales y locales para ayudar a ejecutar programas, proveer supervisión fiscal, vigilar las credenciales del personal docente, suministrar apoyo a los programas de estudio y entrenamiento y asistir en otras áreas de interés a los distritos locales. Esta responsabilidad requiere experiencia de amplio alcance. Aporto al puesto un Doctorado en educación y 29 años consecutivos de éxito en administración escolar en el Condado de San Mateo. Este incluye 7 años en varios puestos administrativos en el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Cabrillo, 11 años como superintendente en el Distrito Escolar de San Bruno Park y 11 años de superintendente asociado en el Departamento de Educación del Condado de San Mateo. Como Superintendente del Condado proveeré liderazgo fiscalmente sólido a los distritos escolares de nuestro condado, controlaré costos y lucharé por obtener fondos adecuados para la educación especial, promoveré legislación crítica al bienestar de la educación en nuestro condado, buscaré nuevas oportunidades de extender la colaboración entre la comunidad comercial y la docente, y promoveré soluciones prácticas en materia de vivienda y transporte, que afectan a la educación en nuestro condado.
