Smart Voter Official Statement for Richard S. Gordon

Candidate for
Member, Board of Supervisors; County of San Mateo; District 3

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

RICHARD S. GORDON Age: 53
Occupation: Member, Board of Supervisors

Education & Qualifications:
It has been my privilege to represent you on the Board of Supervisors for the past four years.

Our challenges have included gridlock on the roads, a national tragedy that hit San Mateo County's workforce hard, and a shortage of quality childcare. As your supervisor, I worked to resolve these issues.

I fought regionally and secured tax dollars from Alameda and Santa Clara Counties to restore rail service on the Dumbarton Bridge. I brought government and labor together to respond to the devastation of the airline and travel industry last fall. My challenge to tobacco tax funds freed $6 million annually for children's health and pre-school care.

To protect our environment, I led the effort to create a park at Mirada Surf on our coast.

I see public service as a commitment and I take it seriously. I believe government should be responsive. That is why I have listened and regularly visited every community. I work hard to understand the issues, find common ground, and tell you directly what is possible. I value the trust and confidence that you have placed in me.

I'd appreciate your vote on March 5th.

/s/ Richard S. Gordon
