Treasurer/Tax Collector; County of San Diego

A political moderate, Jim derives his support from both major political parties. He has stated publicly his opposition to Proposition 45, a thinly disguised attempt by career politicians to circumvent the term limits that have worked so well in assuring that fresh ideas are continually introduced into the political discourse.

Jim also opposes County Proposition "A" that would make the County Treasurer / Tax Collector an appointed office. The Board of Supervisors has already eroded the democratic process by eliminating the county clerk and recorder as independently elected positions.

Although he believes that the best government is one that governs the least, he strongly supports laws that preserve the environment including improved fuel economy in automobiles and the elimination of visual pollution in our communities. He advocates such programs as the recycling of scarce materials and the use of zoning laws to assure that the rights of adjacent property owners are not abused.
