This information is provided by the candidate

Nearly 20 years ago, Michael Magne moved to Santa Barbara, drawn here by our community, our beaches, our mountains and our small town atmosphere.

Believing in the opportunities presented by our local economy, Michael Magne started a small business, A Skaters Paradise. Currently, he runs a successful local business that sells, rents and installs commercial audio/visual equipment. During his 18 years as a local businessman, Michael Magne has worked closely with the city and the county governments to address commercial planning, downtown revitalization, and the overall economic viability of our area.

In addition to his local business investment, Michael Magne has worked to give Santa Barbara kids better recreational opportunities. He founded a non-profit group called Black Ice that redeveloped an abandoned plot of downtown property and converted it to a roller hockey arena for our local youth. Michael Magne is a true believer when it comes to investing in our youth. He has volunteered and contributed both personal and businesses resources to help support our local schools and youth programs.

Michael Magne has been active in many local charities and community events. In 1999, Michael Magne was president of SPARKLE, which honors our local veterans annually at Santa Barbara's Fourth of July celebration. For several years, Michael Magne was a member of the Black and Blue Ball committee, the largest local fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Also, Michael Magne was a founding member of the Santa Barbara Young Professionals Group, which raises money for our local charities.

The Santa Barbara City Council appointed Michael Magne to the city Parks & Recreation Commission in 1993. Since his appointment, Michael Magne has served as liason to the Aquatics Commission, the Golf Course Advisory Commission, and the Santa Barbara City Planning Commission. Michael has also served as a member of the Parks & Recreation Commission. During his tenure the commission helped create the Chase Palm Park, converted the Wilcox Property to the Douglas Family Preserve, and helped develop Parque de los Ninos. He is currently focusing on the Franchesci House redevelopment, the Sheffield Reservoir and a new location for a community swimming pool.

Michael Magne is a strong supporter of our local law enforcement and emergency services. He has completed the Citizens Police Academy and hopes to work with county and local agencies to provide better workforce housing for these important members of our community.

Michael currently lives on the Mesa in Santa Barbara with his wife Kelly and they are expecting their first child in the spring.
