Joe Centeno grew up in the Santa Maria Valley. Over forty-five years ago he married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia. They have two children: a daughter, Brandi and a son, Joseph Dean. On his 21st birthday he joined the Santa Maria Police Department, eventually became Chief of Police.

While working and raising his family he attended night school, eventually earning a Masters Degree and ABD Degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University.

After his retirement in December, 1988 he continued to serve the community as a trustee of the Allan Hancock College Board and as a Santa Maria Councilman. He is currently Mayor of the City of Santa Maria.

Joe's Priorities for the Board of Supervisors are:

  • Private property rights
  • Strong representation for North County interest
  • Reduction of regulations that adversely affect farmers and ranchers
  • Embracing policies that reflect the interests of a diverse constituency
  • Concentration on the true responsibilities of county government
  • Limits to county regulations

Joe Centeno is a proven leader with a vision for today and a vision for tomorrow.
