REDUCING TRAFFIC IMPACTS FOR OUR RESIDENTS

By Roger L. Horton

Candidate for Member of City Council; City of Santa Barbara

This information is provided by the candidate
On the City Transportation Committee, I am working to reduce traffic, promote the use of electric shuttles, and to take a regional approach to retricting growth
As a member of the Transportation Committee, I have an intimate knowledge of our Circulation Element (CE) which was written by many concerned citizens, who had the foresight to know that planning for a livable future must begin now, if we are to avoid the horrendous impact that growth and traffic congestion have had on other cities. The CE addresses all aspects of this subject, including walking, biking, public transportation, use of paseos and ride-sharing. Of particular interest to me is the work needed to insure that people are able to get work and back using safe, clean, low environmental impact public transportation. We must also look to the future, and plan for a light rail system that would run from San Luis Obispo to Camarillo. We should also plan for the next generation of personal and public vehicles, and at all times be sure that the goals of the CE are being met.
