Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Rich C. Foster

Candidate for
Board Member; Salinas Union High School District; Trustee Area 7

This information is provided by the candidate

Accountability and Goals - "We must establish goals for the School District, with input from all parties. These goals in turn should be used to measure the effectiveness of the Superintendent. The budget must be aligned to the goals and follow thru must be measured, by school board members, administrators, teachers, parents and students."

Preparing Students - "The most important function of the District is to prepare students to be ready for the future. We must prepare students for college by challenging them acedemically. For those that do not go on to college we need opportunities in vocational education. To be a strong nation we must prepare students to fill the needs of the future."

Open Communcation - The First Step to Excellence - "As a trustee on the Spreckels School Board for the last four years, I have seen how public meetings and an open communication has improved our schools. I was able to conduct town hall meeting, allowing parents a place to, voice their opinion, ask questions and get some ansewers. The same can work at SHSD."

More Counselors - Fewer Dropouts - "Students need guidance and advice from qualified counselors when planning their futures. Currently there are an average of 500 students to 1 counselor. Correcting this ratio needs to be a priority for the District.
