Preserving Our Quality of Life

By Cheryl Martinsen

Candidate for Judge of the Superior Court; County of Sonoma; Office 3

This information is provided by the candidate
Sonoma County needs a judge familiar with the enironmental review process and water issues.
Sonoma County will be facing exteme challenges concerning water and the impact on the environment of various projects. Because many of these issues end up before the courts, it is essential that we have a judge familiar with the complexity of these issues.

As a director of the Camp Meeker Recreation and Park District I have been involved in bringing clean water to our community. I have experienced first hand the environmental review process and have assisted in resolving environmental impact concerns without the need for litigation.

As an attorney I have experienced the results of having a judge unfamiliar with water law attempting to decide a complex water issue. It took 90 days and numerous revisions of the decision. Delayed decisions increase expenses for all involved and often inhibits parties from meaningful mediation of the dispute. I am familiar with these issues and will work diligently to resolve such issues in a timely fashion.
