Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Sebastopol

I had lived here all of two weeks when I volunteered as a Foreman to help build the Super Playground. Three months later I was appointed to the Planning Commission after serving a month on the Design Review Board. When I was elected in 1996, my fellow council members unanimously elected me vice mayor. The following year I became Mayor, again unanimously. I worked hard to make the council a place where all points of view were welcomed and respected.

• While some may speak of Affordable Housing, I design it and see that it gets built. I am responsible for designing over 100 units for low and very low income residents and well over 100 homes for working families of moderate income. I have the knowledge and experience to make a difference.

• Others may talk about preserving open space while I devoted 4 1/2 years of my life to doing just that while serving on the County`s Agricultural Preservation & Open Space District. We are the only county in the entire country that voted to tax itself to preserve our land. We should be proud of our acomplishments and continue to work hard in this area.

• All of these commitments took place while I was working full time as an Architect and caring for my two young sons, Nick and Andy Katchmer. They are proud of my being on the council and incouraged me to run again. I believe it is important to have diversity on the council. I want to continue to present a positive roll model for the young women and girls in our community.

• I am committed to giving my skills to the community. By listening to you, researching all facets of an issue and then making wise decisions I have demonstrated that commitment. We need to look forward and be pro-active in meeting the challenges we face. I welcome your input. I hope you will contact me with your concerns.

• I am not accepting any donations because I do not believe raising large sums of money is necessary to run for office in Sebastopol. I also believe in true campaign reform where money no longer "buys" votes. I am relying soley on word of mouth support, walking the precincts delivering my homemade flyer and putting up the few signs I have made.
