Dumbarton Bridge Southern Access Completion/ Universty Avenue Improvements

By Robert A. Alexander

Candidate for Council Member; City of East Palo Alto

This information is provided by the candidate
Dumbarton Bridge final Environmental Impact Report was approved with a southern access connecting to Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto. The result of the State of California reneging, and not building the southern access has had negative impact on East Palo Alto economic development, and the health and safety of our residential neighborhoods. University Avenue has excess traffic on residential street, and needs a sound wall, and traffic enforcement.
The Dumbarton Bridge was completed in 1982, prior to the City of East Palo Alto incorporation. The Final Environmental Impact Report was approved after negotiations between the City of Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Atherton, County of San Mateo, State of California, and representative from the Municipal Council of the unincoporate area øf East Palo Alto.

It was agreed that ƒour access roads would be built. The State of California, reneged on building the southern access that would have provided mitigation for flood, traffic, health and safety concerns as well as addressed ecomomic development opportunities by providing access to our industrial park.

This would have enabled direct access to 101 and the Dumbarton Bridge for trucks, as well as provide a safety factor for Romic whose vehicles carry chemical past our schools and homes.

We need the southern access Now as commuter traffic is damaging the infrastructure of our streets, polluting our air, and making us prisoners in our neighborhoods. Who will pay the toll to repair our streets, and for the negative impact to our health and safety?

We also need signs designating no left and right turns during specific hours on neighborhood streets, and assistance with enforcing traffic laws on University Avenue. A yellow flashing signal is needed on University Avenue indicating school zone, as well as a sound wall and side walks is also necessary for our neighborhood and schools We need action Now!!!!!!!!
