Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Vickie Westrup

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Grant Joint Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate

My platform is simple: I am running for the Grant Board because I believe it is time for the Grant District to be dissolved and the schools turned over to the Rio Linda and North Sacramento School Districts. For the last several years, one set of 'reform' candidates after another has promised change in the District, but test scores remain the lowest in Sacramento County. Every new set of candidates pleads for a chance to turn things around, but in the two years that pass between each election another group of middle-school students pass through the system. Who speaks for them?

Students need books and an effective reading program, not district image consultants. The Board and administrators need to stop blaming the teachers, 'labor unrest' and the 'feeder districts' and take responsibility for poor student performance.

I hope you'll agree that we need some bold steps to help our kids. It isn't going to be easy. Nothing worth doing is. Your vote for me is one for dissolving the Grant District. Let's get this done!

I also pledge that I won't take campaign money from any special interest politicians. That way I won't 'owe' anyone, except the students! Thank you.
